(DANGSUGAR:NL 12.22 NGN 0.23 1.85%)   Dangote Sugar Refinery (DSR) Board of Directors has appointed a new Group Managing Director, Mr. Graham Clark.

Clark who served as the  Managing Director of Illovo Sugar Ltd, before he resigned from the African company has made his mark in sugar manufacturing and marketing in Africa. Illovo Sugar Ltd, with active  operations in six African countries is the largest sugar producer in Africa headquartered in Malawi.

Clark in totality has been a successful manager during his tenure with  Illovo Sugar Ltd. But also he has his low point especially during the shortage of sugar and subsequent higher price in Malawi local market. Sugar was imported from Zambia to stabilize price and eased shortage.

When he departed from  Illovo Sugar Ltg, Bloomberg News reported that "Clark leaves the company as a global surplus of the sweetener cuts prices, with raw-sugar futures falling 18 percent this year. Prices are now below the cost of output for most producers, according to Illovo. While local prices in South Africa and Tanzania are under pressure because of low-cost imports, Illovo is able to offset this with premiums in markets such as Zambia."

Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Sugar Refinery (DSR) said , “Clark brings the experience and expertise to meet these big picture aspirations through a proven record of operational leadership, problem solving, strategy development and team playing. These traits and abilities will serve him well in the days and years ahead.”

Dangote stressed  the essence of Nigeria's industrial coming of age:  “At the cusp of industrial revolution in Nigeria and with our acquisition of Savannah Sugar Company, located on 32,000 hectares in Adamawa State and planned development of other sugar fields across the country estimated at over 300,000 hectares, critical enablers such as innovation, talent and skills are key levers to put us on a competitive trajectory growth path.”

Dangote  praised the new Deputy Managing Director, Abdullahi Sule who preciously manage the company for his tirelessly role in the company,  “The Board would like to also especially thank Mr Abdullahi Sule for his tireless commitment and transformational leadership for the company and its shareholders during its important transitional years.” .”
