Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Umuoji Improvement Union, Chief Basil Okonkwo has described as “untrue and baseless” a recent publication in the print media titled ‘Umuoji Roots for Ngige’.

He regretted that the impression a reader gets from the write-up is that Umuoji, a community in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State has declared for the APC governorship candidate, Senator Chris Ngige.

In a statement yesterday, he said: “This is not true”, adding, “the convener of the purported town hall meeting, Mr Vincent Oligbo, resides in United Kingdom and records show he has not visited Umuoji in the recent times and must be out of tune with the realities on ground”.

Okonkwo said that Umuoji has noticed a significant development from the government of Governor Peter Obi. He enumerated a number of projects the town has benefited from Peter Obi’s administration including new school blocks at Community Primary School in Umuoma,Uruaneke Aboh, Umuobia, Aguma, Akalaetiti and Abidi villages. Others are borehole projects in several parts of the town. On secondary schools, he said Mater Amabilis and Umuoji Community Secondary Schools have several projects like new two-storey building nearing completion, renovation of science blocks /equipment, fully equipped computer, biology and physics laboratories with cash donations to schools in the area running into millions of naira.

He also commended Governor Obi’s government for an eight kilometre road connecting Abatete, a neighbouring town which is also under construction. Okonkwo wondered how “Umuoji community will abandon a party that had made these projects possible and root for one that is making empty promises”.

Umuoji community, he said “has every reason to support the APGA government of our dear state and congratulates Gov Peter Obi for his laudable achievements in the state. “We are also proud to host the governor and the campaign team of Chief Willie Obiano, the APGA governorship candidate on Saturday, October 19, 2013. The town will dutifully reciprocate the goodwill of Gov Peter Obi through our votes on November 16, 2013”, he said.
