It is official – Peter Obi finally joins PDP

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and one time Chairman of the APGA’s Board of Trustees (BoT), has finally bowed to constant and consistent pressure and has decamped from All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

PDP delegation visited Obi in his residential house at Onitsha GRA and in their presence he succumbed and threw in his cap for PDP. The delegation included Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, Governors Godswill Akapbio (Awka Ibom), Theodore Orji (Abia), PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, Women Leader, Kema Chikwe and other PDP officials.

The former National Chairman of PDP, Chief Okwesilieze Nwodo, made the motion for Obi ‘s declaration : “We are here to request you to join us in PDP and work with us as an insider no more an outsider. PDP was founded by our own man, Dr. Alex Ekwueme and we started winning 80 percent in the Southeast zone until such a time when we drew backwards but we believe that with you in our midst, we shall return to our winning spree. I now move a motion requesting you to here and now give us your word”.

The motion was second by Wike: ”We are here to ask Obi, the heart of APGA to join us. We have already captured Imo state and with him, we will get the soul of Anambra and leave the carcass for other parties. I am therefore seconding the motion”.

“We need you not to sabotage the aspiration of the president. We have noted your importance and the party believes that at this critical point it is imperative for you to come and join the PDP. The PDP is the only party that fosters unity, others are ethnic based,” as he was reminded by National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Olisa Metuh before Mr. Obi finally bowed to wishes of the delegation and joined PDP

Metuah further enunciated the political superiority of Obi by saying, “the PDP never lost any election to any party; we always lost to Peter Obi.”

Obi concluded that, "I have in the past worked closely with all of you and you know my belief about our zone working together. I assure you that we will continue to work even closer as a team in the interest of our people.”
