Yes, the presidential primary for the nominee for All Progressive Party (APC) flagbearer is over. APC party nominated Bola Ahmed Tinubu. But it is still important to revisit some of the highlights of the process that gave APC its flag bearer. The outstanding one was the N100 million fees which was the cost to purchase presidential forms. The mathematics is quite simple. There were 28 forms purchased, therefore the total revenue generated was N2.8 billion naira. That’s quite a lump sum of money! If you divide it among 200 million Nigerians, you will make each person a multi-millionaire.
Although 23 presidential candidates were screened by All Progressive Party (APC), but total of 28 presidential forms were purchased by the presidential aspirants. Former President Jonathan and Akinwumi Adesina rejected the forms bought by coalitions that implored them to run for presidency.
In addition, Chris Ngige, minister of labour; Timipre Sylva, minister of state for petroleum: and Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) failed to submit their presidential forms.
The amount of money generated by APC Party from the candidates was N2.8 billion naira. The money is non refundable and APC Party is not accountable to anybody or institution on how money is to be spend. And there is no enquiry on how the candidates were able to come up with such amount of money to purchase the form.
This amount of money can be use to solve some of the country’s existential problems including out of children school, poverty elevation and host of other problems.
