Burna Boy Announced Among Performers At 2022 Billboard Music Awards – VIBE.com
Burna Boy @Billboard Awards

Burna Boy the sensational international artist and  Nigeria based Afro-fusion star performed at Billboard Music Awards. This was his first performance at Billboard Music Awards. He was favorably  honored by closing the show with his energetic and explosive new song ‘Last Last’ . One thing about Burna Boy is that he never disappoints and his performance was sensational as usual. The crowd at the Billboard award  was dancing and singing with him in the broken English meddled with local Nigerian languages including Ijaw, Igbo and Yoruba.

Burna Boy was recently on the cover of Billboard magazine and now he was at the Billboard Music Awards closing the show in a big way. This buttressed that Burna Boy is now without doubt among the best performers in the world. His music has gone global and you can hear his songs in any part of the world. There is no doubt he has finally arrived in the global showbiz sphere.

“Wearing a stylishly flayed black suit jacket and shorts, the Nigerian singer delivered his new single, the Toni Braxton-sampling “Last Last,” and the dub-flavored, laid-back single “Kilometre” from 2021. The Grammy winner confidently strutted and danced around the stage, giving a high-energy, upbeat finish to the BBMAs.

Two days before his BBMAs performance, Burna Boy sat down with Billboard‘s Heran Mamo during the first-ever Billboard MusicCon in Las Vegas for a panel titled “The Explosion of Afro-Fusion.” Among other topics, he talked about first falling in love with the idea of performing while watching *NSYNC perform with Nelly at the 2002 Grammy Awards. Now, he’s a touring juggernaut, becoming the first Nigerian artist to headline (and sell out) Madison Square Garden in April. “It’s like I’m better at [performing] than making music. And that says a lot because I’m really good at making music,” Burna Boy said in his Billboard cover story. “You see how with Christ, there’s B.C. and A.D.? I feel like that’s how it is for me with performing. There’s going to be a ‘Before Burna Came’ and ‘After Burna’s Death’ time period in the performing arts world. That’s my legacy.”

Afro-fusion or Afrobeats as a music genre have become a main stream music and can be grouped into a popular music category. And Burna Boy is among those that made it possible and for this Nigeria and Africa is proud of him.
