The famous singer, Janet Jackson recently questioned the racial diversity of vice president Kamala which is both Black and Indian. The member of the great singing family Jackson said in the interview with The Guardian Newspaper that Vice President Kamala Harris is Indian with white father, not Black.
“Janet Jackson suggested that she believes certain conspiracy theories about Kamala Harris’ racial identity in an interview with The Guardian published Friday, asserting that “her father’s white. That’s what I was told.”
“Janet Jackson’s management later walked back her comments in a statement Sunday, apologizing “for any confusion” and noting Jackson’s comments were “based on misinformation.”
The Jackson statement reads, “Janet Jackson acknowledges that her recent comments about Vice President Kamala Harris’ racial identity were based on misinformation. She extends her sincerest apologies for any confusion caused and reaffirms her respect for Harris’ dual heritage as both Black and Indian.”
“Janet remains committed to fostering unity, inclusion, and understanding and is grateful for the opportunity to clarify her stance,” the statement continues. “She will continue to use her platform to support leaders who represent diversity and progress.”
Vice President Kamala Harris’ biological “father is professor Donald J. Harris, is a Black man born in Jamaica who married her Indian mother, Shyamala Gopalan, in 1963 while the two were attending the University of California, Berkley. Harris was born in 1964 and her sister, Maya, was born in 1967. The couple divorced in 1971.”
