Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General lunched WTO Capacity Support Programs through the The Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF). The purpose of the project was “to improve the quality and certification of export of Cowpeas and Sesame, thus helping with the diversification of Nigeria’s exports.”
“Nigeria is the worlds largest exporter of cowpeas and the fourth largest exporter of sesame. Quality upgrades and Certification of the products will help improve the incomes of farmers and agribusiness exporters. Other programs to support Nigeria include the Digital Trade in Africa Pilot (in partnership with the World Bank), the Women Exporters in the Digital Economy (WEIDE) Fund, and the Trade Intelligence Platform and Unit (among others). Many influential Nigerians were present including the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President Senator, Governor of Imo State Uzodinma and many others in the present administration.
